On the way back from Costco (still with the old battery, as the trip there was long enough to give it enough charge to restart it to get back) the car started running very poorly - misfiring continuously. I wanted to have the battery tested first, but the logistics of doing that were kind of tough (it's our only car), so I decided to just get a new battery from Costco since they allow a return. After jumping it and driving around a while, it seemed the battery got sufficiently recharged to restart the car after leaving it off for a short interval, but after leaving it off overnight it wouldn't start in the morning. I was out of town for two weeks recently, and when I got back, the car wouldn't start - battery was dead. The performance and economy of the car seem to have been unaffected.

I haven't tried it myself so proceed with caution. Oh and I found the following on another site about how you can turn the engine light off without a VAG Scanner if you are convinced there is nothing wrong with your car. Re: Cylinder Misfire to #1, #2 & #3 (vfrankl) The car only has 45k miles and has been well maintenanced. I was reading the archived posts earlier today and found a post stating that maybe putting toluene in my gas tank may help clean the fuel injectors.Īny input would be greatly appreciated. After picking up from the dealership and driving it for about 20 minutes the light is back on.īefore I do anything I was hoping for some input from any of you guys. It seems like they really don't know what the problem is. They said cleaning the fuel injectors may solve the problem. They replaced the turbo cut off valve and want to replace the crank case vent hose. The dealer really didn't say what the problem was. As I turned on the car that morning I noticed the light was no longer on. Afraid to drive the car, I let it sit for about 3 days until it came time for my appointment at the dealership. My first guess was maybe an ignition coil.

I took it to Autozone where they found cylinder misfire to #1, #2 & #3. The check engine light on my 2001 VW Jetta 1.8T came on Last Saturday Morning.
